“A Lost Love,” a short film inspired by music video concept

This non-dialogue film is constructed from footage of a music video I directed for New York-based vocalist Shantoneel Dhar. In Dhar’s bittersweet song, a man expresses his gratefulness to his former lover for the memories he will cherish for the rest of his life, though now they have moved on in their lives. Depicting this concept in visual terms in a music video format -no dialogue, short length- was a challenge.

I wrote a script which renders past memories as something physical; memories are written down everyday on slides of paper to be displayed on a wall as a shrine to one’s love. With this premise as its core, I wrote a love story with a sad twist. Though the music video served the idea succinctly, I decided to expand the story portion of the video into this film. In trying to showcase the best of what the cast and crew offered to the production, I lengthened the edit to seventeen minutes.
